Did you overeat at the end of the year? Did you make a New Years resolution to lose weight or implement a lifestyle change?
If you answered yes to any of these questions this information will help you.
Who should detox? everyone over 18 who is not pregnant, nursing or has other contraindications (you should consult with your physician before implementing a detox plan)
Do I need to detox? You should have a bowel movement after every meal. If this is not occurring, a detox will help to remove accumulated waste in your system.
There are different kinds of detoxification. I recommend that everyone do a colon cleanse at least twice a year. A liver cleanse is also very beneficial. It is important that you are not sick when starting a cleanse since your body needs to be strong enough to eliminate toxins. While detoxing it is important to give your digestive system a rest so I advise that you eliminate sugar and avoid processed foods. You should also avoid red meat and pork if it is not grass fed and hormone free. I advise against cleanses that do not provide nutritional support (discourages food intake and does not provide nutritional supplementation). The average detox program can be completed in 10-14 days. The first 1-2 days may be uncomfortable but thereafter you should feel energized. Check with your physician before starting a program.
If you are starting a weight loss program it is a good idea to start with a detox. This will usually improve your results. After your detox, be aware of how your body reacts to the foods that you add back to your diet. You may want to limit or eliminate foods that have a negative effect of your body.
